Matt Masek Returns as Shadow Circus Bassist

Inspired by the music of The Doors and The Beatles (especially Paul McCartney), Matt began studying classical guitar at the age of 9. Thus started a long path of formal music training that continued on to include cello starting at age 11, which he studied formally for 10 years, culminating at The New School of Music in Philadelphia. A high school friend introduced him to the music of Genesis in 1977 and thrust him into the world of progressive rock.

Until joining Shadow Circus, Matt performed with Nexus, an innovative, progressive band from Texas, and has had the honor of performing onstage with Spencer Davis, Jon Anderson and Dickie Betts at B.B. King's in New York City for the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp.

As the original bassist for Shadow Circus who performed on the band's debut, Welcome to the Freakroom, as well as cello arrangements on Whispers and Screams, the band is pleased to announce his return to the group for their third release and 2011 tour.

David Silver Joins as New Shadow Circus Keyboardist

David's early love of the Beatles and knack for playing the piano led him to find inspiration in the progressive music of the 70s. ELP, Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull and Frank Zappa, to name a few, were his early influences as his interest developed in the music as well as the tools and techniques of the genre. Exposure to instruments like the Hammond organ and Minimoog led David to experiment with various flavors of analog modular and computer based synthesizers while studying music and computer science at NYU. Here’s a piece he composed on the Serge modular synthesizer in 1981:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N14T7-8OlV4

In the late 1980s David wrote music software for the Commodore Amiga, collaborating with composer and computer music pioneer Laurie Spiegel (http://retiary.org/) on the Amiga version of Music Mouse-An Intelligent Instrument, followed by numerous programs published by Dr. T's Music Software of Boston.

In the 2000s, David decided to return to his roots by forming Lucky Men (originally Federman, Fake & Farmer)---New York's only Emerson, Lake and Palmer tribute (http://www.luckymenband.com). Though the band only played out a few times, working over a number of years with various incarnations allowed David to hone his live playing skills and assemble his computer-based kit of vintage instruments and sounds.

David is thrilled to have the opportunity to become a member of Shadow Circus and contribute all he can as it embarks on its upcoming tour and records its new CD.

P.S. David always dreamed of playing Hoedown on stage alongside Keith Emerson and in May of 2010 he did just that!!! (See the YouTube video here: http://youtu.be/mE9Mgyz8cn4)

Jason Brower Joins as New Shadow Circus Drummer

A composer/lyricist, drummer and keyboardist, Jason Brower has been making music since elementary school. His love of progressive rock took root at the age of six when he heard Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. By age eight, he was playing drums and had discovered bands like Yes, ELP & Jethro Tull, instantly galvanized by the emotion and dynamics of the music and its ability to transport the listener to another place...a Prog-head was born! Throughout his younger years, Jason was involved in the concert band, orchestra, jazz ensemble and marching band at school, as well as many rock bands and projects recording original material alongside the obligatory cover band circuit. He is a seasoned veteran of the music scene in Westchester and NYC and has performed on such renowned stages as The Apollo Theatre, CBGB's, The Bitter End and The Paramount Theatre.

Jason has toured with sixties pop sensations The Cuff Links (“Tracy”) and has performed with such legends as Vince Martell of Vanilla Fudge (“You Keep Me Hangin’ On”) and Barbara Harris of The Toys (“A Lover’s Concerto”). Cutting his teeth on a steady diet of Classical and Fusion, alongside of Prog, Jason's original work is a hybrid of many styles. He writes for and performs with his original Progressive bands “Ceiling Unlimited” and “Magic Lantern Show;” his original solo project, "Mourning Knight," is another ongoing outlet for his Progressive passion. Jason is very excited to be a new member of the Shadow Circus family and is looking forward to a great future with the band.
